Tremors: The Series PDF Print E-mail

It began with the Graboids (Tremors), giant worms who are born unto the world every 300 years to feed upon whatever they can "grab" from the surface. Usually, something organically tasty, such as humanoids. It isn't their fault really, they need to feed to grow up to become adult Shriekers (Tremors II: Aftershocks) ... up to a half a dozen of em, in fact. Puts an ironic twist to "Divide and Conquer," huh? However, Shriekers run around the surface, unlike their predecessors ... still very hungry, and very dangerous to the surface biped natives, like us. Isn't their fault, either, this is how they reproduce ... barfing up another Shrieker, after they have filled their bellies. Ohhh, but the circle of life doesn't stop here ... nooo ... Shriekers eventually morph into Assblasters (Tremors 3: Back to Perfection). A term of endearment given to these winged nightmares because they use the brilliant use of ignited farts to take flight. Ahhh, such a wondrous sight to see. Finally, it is the egg of each of these Assblasters that are buried deep in the earth to once again begin this long, and rather devastating process all over again.

One cult film, one video sequel and a third cable movie later, Tremors: The Series is born to continue it's own life cycle on prime time television. A few original characters, and some new ones, tell the story of a small, desert town trying to live in relative peace and harmony with these nasty creatures. The most beloved of these characters is the infamous Burt Gummer, brilliantly portrayed by Michael Gross (the only actor featured in all the Tremors stories, who started one day after concluding the long running Family Ties series), is the gun -toting, paranoid survivalist defending the quiet town of Perfection, Nevada, from his ultra high tech underground bunker. Several other residents refuse to leave this annoying lifestyle of Perfection - Mindy and Melvin have grown up here, and Mindy's mom Nancy Sterngood, played by Marcia Strassman (Mrs. Kotter and Honey, I ?????? the kids films) is still looking for her own down-to-earthy soul mate while she crafts various graboid knick knacks. Chang's Market has evolved to also capitalize on the town strange inhabitants, but is now run by niece Jodi Chang, (newcomer Lela Lee). And the infamous Graboid Tours - once operated by previous residents Val, Earl and Grady - is now owned by ex-Nascar driver, Tyler Reed (newcomer Victor Browne). Even Miguel's Cattle Ranch remains active, but has been taken over by Miguel's long lost cousin, ex-Vegas Showgirl Rosalita Sanchez (newcomer Gladys Jimenez). Finally, there is the inevitable bumbling villain, Federal Agent W.D. Twitchell, portrayed by veteran actor Dean Norris (Starship Troopers, Gattica, Lawnmower Man, Terminator 2, Gremlins 2, Total Recall, etc.). It's he job to try to evict the township, but he is terrified of getting out of his car for fear of the sterile and albino pet Graboid, El Blanco.

Tremors: The Series airs Fridays at 9pm beginning March 28th on the SciFi Channel. The two hour premier guest stars Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future films, My Favorite Martian) as wacky scientist, Cletus Poffenberger.
