Ion Television re-enters the cable network series arena for only the 2nd time in four years with the award-winning Canadian thriller, Durham County. And Canadian television now earns my WTF? award (I just made it up, dunno if I will make this official, yet) for American Delayed Television Series for 2009, finally toppling Brit's reign for the last few years. Durham County just finished airing it's season two finale Aug. 17th, and is likely to run a third. So, if you never heard of the series, don't feel so bad, neither had I. Heck, I have never seen ION, even though it's among my DirecTV channel line-up. What's even stranger to me, is Durham County reminds me of the Showtime series, Meadowlands (or Cape Wrath as known to the Brits), which I really enjoyed but was cancelled after a single 8 episode season. Durham County began two months earlier than Meadowlands, so if anything this is THE original story (and I seem to be the only one online who notices the simularities between the two shows, but no worries ... there are plenty of differences). Only 6 episodes per season for Durham County, so I am not sure how Ion will handle them, but it premieres to us Americans tonight - September 7th, 2009, alongside reruns of CBS's hit Criminal Minds.

The US television 75-minute premiere of the British cult hit, Being Human, airs tonight on BBC America. Once again, we Yanks are a season behind the Brits (but, the good news is this series has been renewed for a second season), and yet again, I have stumbled upon the spoilers of season one during my research (curse you BBC!!!). Hopefully, I will drink just enough liquor to forget what I have read, and enjoy the show. Now, there have been a gazillion ghost stories, vampire tales and werewolf chronicles. And, on occasion, the paths of these legendary monsters cross. But, rarely do you get to see a vamp, werewolf and ghost share a flat in Modern Day Britain, desperately trying to fit in society by, well ... being human.

I thought this would be the shortest preview I would ever write for the reincarnation of the film released today - Friday the 13th. I mean, what is there to say? ... Sexed-up Teens, Camp Crystal Lake, Jason hacking them all up with a machete. But, there is more to this "reboot" of a horror classic, than you might imagine.
I have seen all 11 films in the series, several times over in some cases, so I was oddly curious and at the same time wincing at the thought of another classic horror remake. But you (and I) might as well settle in for the next few years of these horror films of the past getting a makeover ... you wouldn't believe the list of remakes, if I told ya.
There were a slew of potential script ideas for the next installment in the Jason saga, but all rejected in favor of this old-school plot, that combines several elements from 5 of the original films. This is NOT a remake of the first film, as is quite obvious from the trailers that Jason comes out swinging, rather than his sweet ole mommy slashing all the kiddies up.
